The Story Behind Luminal Space

Behind every brand, no matter how big or small, there’s a story of how it started – about the tiny seed of inspiration and hope that eventually grew an idea into a thriving business. This is mine!

My story starts in the beautiful country of South Africa. I spent my young life as your typical “Jack of All Trades” and never truly excelled at any particular hobby or sport. As a teenager, I was constantly trying to find the spark that would ignite a lifelong passion for something.

Inspired by motivational authors like Paulo Coelho and Robin Sharma, I wanted my own miraculous story of success, a rag to riches tale for the ages. I just didn’t know how to start. Would I pursue a career as an artist? Would I continue to work in my parents’ supermarket? The possibilities were endless and overwhelming.

I eventually decided to pursue a career in Marketing and Media. After completing my university degree, I moved to the UK and quickly entered the hospitality industry. I started working as a barman, which took me from the London Fashion Week and Formula1, to serving Margaret Thatcher a gin and tonic and bumping into Naomi Campbell at Vogue House.

One fateful day, I served a coffee and sandwich to a media executive who, on finding out I had a degree in marketing, took a chance on a young South African with a dream. I started putting my marketing degree to good use and travelled everywhere from Singapore to Hong Kong, where I found love. I built a career and worked for famous, high-pressure tech companies like LinkedIn and Expedia. I travelled from Europe to Africa and everywhere in between.

And then, I was made redundant. Suddenly, everything that I had worked towards for so many years was gone – and I was back at square one.

But Instead of quitting, I pushed forward. I immediately started looking for new opportunities for growth. I completed a menswear fashion design course at the London College of Fashion, and I even helped an old friend develop a new business. I did online Reiki classes, took plant-based culinary courses, and considered starting a protein muffin business (which isn’t out of the question just yet), but I quickly found that although I had incredible ideas, I tended to lose steam, interest, and motivation.

When the pandemic hit, I started exercising as a way to center myself and clear my mind. I visualized my goals. I meditated and journaled. And then, I stumbled across Qigong – an ancient Chinese form of exercise – and fell in love.

As my progress and interest in Qigong grew, so did an idea.

Practising Qigong every day made me feel passionate, engaged, and excited – why not turn it into my career?

And so, Luminal Space was born. I created this business as a way to share my passion for the mindfulness and clarity Qigong has given me to give people just like you a way to learn and discover their own balance and potential.

Don’t take my word for it though. Reach out to me today to find out more about how Luminal Space can change your outlook on yourself, your life, and the world around you.
